Dakhla is a city well known for the practice of kitesurfing. There are very few destinations in the world that benefit from steady winds, water at 25°C and a blue sky almost all year round, in addition to offering a breathtaking setting.

It is these optimal conditions that make it a dream destination for water sports lovers, especially kitesurfers, to the point of hosting each year a stage of the kite surfing world championships.

How to get to Dakhla from France?

This is the most asked question!

To travel, you must have an up-to-date passport. The national identity card is not enough.

Regarding the flights, two companies operate to Dakhla.

- Royal Air Maroc (RAM) operates connecting flights most often to Casablanca from France.

Since 15/06/21, the RAM has opened a direct flight PARIS-DAKHLA per week on Tuesday.

- Transavia operates direct flights from Paris to Dakhla: not currently operated due to Covid-19.

For information, the boardbag is free with the Royal Air Maroc (23 kg) and paying with Transavia.

The Moroccan authorities have decided to resume international flights to and from Morocco and in particular Dakhla from 7 FEBRUARY 2022.

What good news!

Today, the city of DAKHLA has very few cases. We advise you to travel with vigilance in order to preserve this spot.

ACCESS TO MOROCCO :

If you are vaccinated, have a complete vaccination pass (3 doses or current pass) OR have a negative PCR test of less than 48H before boarding.
Rapid tests (antigenic) will be performed for all passengers upon arrival at airports
Random PCR tests will be performed for groups of travellers upon arrival and the result will be communicated to them later.

BACK TO FRANCE :

- I am vaccinated : Full vaccination pass (3 doses)

- I am not vaccinated: PCR test less than 48H or antigen test less than 72H

PCR tests are done directly at the Dakhla hospital with a result within 24 hours. It is about 500 dhs (about 50€) in Dakhla.

What is the best season for kitesurfing?

The high season is between March and October.

The low season is between November and February. This is the surf season for surf lovers.

WE ARE CLOSED FROM NOVEMBER TO FEBRUARY.

What are the temperatures in general?

From March to October, it is usually around 25°C when there is wind and around 35°C when it falls (which is relatively rare in high season). In the evening, you should always have a small jacket.

From November to February, temperatures vary between 18°C and 25°C depending on the conditions.

Which combination to choose?

Between March and October, a 3/2 combination is the right compromise. You can use a combi-shorty on the months of July-August-September.

Between November and February, a 4/3 combination is ideal to stay warm all session. For the most chilly, opt for a 5/4.

What should I not forget in my suitcase?

The suitcase is always a headache for you? We give you some tips to best prepare your trip:

A pair of sunglasses (with cord)
A pair of neoprene slippers (for beginners and cold in winter)
Waterproof sunscreen index 50 minimum (yes yes because you will want to tan but the sun of Dakhla is very strong, be careful, protect yourself!)
After-sun
Swimsuit
Bath towel
Pancho
Warm jacket/sweater for the evening
A USB key to be able to recover the photos at the end of stay.

I advise you to have the essentials in your carry-on baggage in case your checked baggage is late.

How is the arrival in Dakhla going?

Upon arrival, a person from the hotel you have chosen will be present to pick you up at the airport.

We will open a Whatsapp group between you, Zakaria (Instructor) and Marine (Customer Manager) in order to communicate together during your stay.

The next day, we will pick you up at your hotel at the time agreed upon the day before to explain to you the progress of your stay and leave for your first kite session.

What you need to know about life in Morocco

On arrival, you can exchange your euros in dirhams at the exchange agencies (1 euros = 10.5 dhs approximately). You can also withdraw dirhams from the distributor of Moroccan banks (fees to be anticipated). In the city, they only accept dirhams except some restaurants take the credit card.

The water has recently been drinkable but the taste is not very good. You can find bottled water to avoid small inconveniences.

It is essential to put your phone in airplane mode or disable your cellular data because the cost is very expensive. You can buy in small grocery stores a SIM card + internet connection at low prices. For example, the SIM card is at 20 dhs (about 2€) and 5GB of internet at 50 dhs (about 5€).

Regarding the city of Dakhla, its geo-political situation is stable. The city is very quiet and secure.

How is an internship at Zakiteboarding?

Every day, we leave at the agreed time the day before on a new spot (modifiable according to the conditions).

In general, we leave for 2 hours of classes in the morning followed by a traditional Moroccan meal. We resume the afternoon for 2H of classes (the number of hours of classes per day is completely modifiable according to your desires).

At the end of the day, we’ll take you back to your hotel.
